I offer short term counselling, longer term psychotherapy, time limited therapy and highly focused single session therapy.
I utilize an integrative approach consisting of therapeutic tools including CBT and creative work as appropriate. There is a focus on psychodynamic therapy in longer term work. I am also able to teach Mindfulness techniques to support the therapeutic process.
Counselling consists of fewer sessions than psychotherapy and is therefore more goal oriented. Counselling is particularly appropriate for addressing a particular problem such as stress, feeling low, anxiety, panic attacks and major life changes including bereavement, divorce and redundancy.
Integrative Counselling usually consists of between 6 – 20 sessions. This can be negotiated according to your needs.
Psychotherapy is appropriate for longer term much deeper issues such as relationship difficulties, eating disorders, self harm, addictions, low self esteem, living with abuse or the affects of past abuse, psycho-sexual issues and depression. My orientation is Psychodynamic within these sessions which means that we may move towards linking past experiences to present patterns of behaviour to create an enhanced understanding of self. Psychotherapy enables you to initiate longer term changes in your relationship to yourself and others.
Single Session Therapy
These sessions are for clients who, for whatever reason, feel that longer term counselling is not suitable for them or want a ‘top-up’ after longer term therapy has finished. The sessions are highly focused and directive and will focus on a single goal.
This is not part of the deeper therapeutic process, but can act as a psychological/emotional first aid or be used to work on a single particular block or issue.
These sessions are 1 hour to 3 hour appointments. Fees are £75 per hour payable in advance. New clients will be sent an assessment form prior to the appointment.
I am registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and I adhere to their code of ethics which can be found on their website www.bacp.co.uk
