I offer short term counselling, longer term psychotherapy,
time limited therapy and highly focused Intensive Short Term Dynamic
Psychotherapy (ISTDP).
I utilize a psychodynamic oriented integrative approach consisting of
therapeutic tools including ISTDP, CBT and creative work as appropriate. I
am also able to teach Mindfulness techniques to support the therapeutic
process.
Counselling
Counselling consists of fewer sessions than psychotherapy and is therefore more goal oriented. Counselling is particularly appropriate for addressing a particular problem such as stress, feeling low, anxiety, panic attacks and major life changes including bereavement, divorce and redundancy.
Integrative Counselling usually consists of between 6 – 20 sessions. This can be negotiated according to your needs.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is appropriate for longer term much deeper issues such as relationship difficulties, eating disorders, self harm, addictions, low self esteem, living with abuse or the affects of past abuse, psycho-sexual issues and depression. My orientation is Psychodynamic within these sessions which means that we may move towards linking past experiences to present patterns of behaviour to create an enhanced understanding of self. Psychotherapy enables you to initiate longer term changes in your relationship to yourself and others.
Intensive Short Term Dynamic Therapy (ISTDP)
ISTDP emphasizes the importance of experiencing core emotions addresses anxiety and defences in order to improve emotional processing and to free patients from distressing symptoms and maladaptive patterns of relating to themselves and to others.
These sessions are 1 hour to 3 hour appointments. Fees are from £75 per hour payable in advance. New clients will be sent an assessment form prior to the appointment.
I am registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and I adhere to their code of ethics which can be found on their website www.bacp.co.uk
